Antique Oak Fariniere Dragon Head Clawfoot Flour Sugar Coffee Box Bin Rare Chest
Antique Oak Fariniere Dragon Head Clawfoot Flour Sugar Coffee Box Bin Rare Chest Offered for your consideration is this Incredible Antique Oak Fariniere Hand Carved 2 Dragon Head Flour / Sugar / Coffee Box / Bin Rare Chest that is a Very Heavy Self-Standing Claw Foot Floor Model Unit. The top lid raises up off the upper compartment and the bottom lid slides forward off from the lower compartment. This amazing unit was purchased in Platte, South Dakota but the great-grandparents of the owners were French & Dutch. They called this a Fariniere, which was a French word we had not heard before. Most of the Farinieres I found were a bit smaller, hung on a wall, & most of the cover lids slid upward, which doesn’t make sense to me at all because the flour would fall out of the bottom space as one pulled the slide door upwards. Anyway, the former owners told me it was handmade (it looks it) & that it had been repaired by different people over the years. This older couple was using the top storage area for coffee & the bottom area for flour, but she told us that her grandmother always kept sugar in the top bin. Hence the 3 words in the title of “flour, sugar, coffee”. It measures approx. 18” wide x 13-1/4” deep x 43” high. The heavy duty lids are approx. 11-1/2” x 15-1/2”. It has been refinished and oh the feel of it is so very smooth.
