COLLECTOR PIECE- 1800s Marshall Islands Mother of Pearl Fish Hook With Sennit
Marshall Islands Mother of Pearl Fish Hook from 1800’s. CALLING ALL COLLECTORS!! Here’s a museum quality Oceanic Micronesian Marshall Islands Mother of Pearl fish hook from the 19th Century (1800s). Back then it was used as currency and for catching Bonito and other large fish like Tuna. Tuna and other large fish were trolled from outrigger sailing canoes with these hooks. It is hand carved from 2 pieces – one larger for the shank and the other smaller and sharper for the hook. They are tightly bound together using sennit cord. Finding these incredible hooks with the sennit still attached is very rare. This one has it! Sennit is a type of cordage made from fibers of coconut husks and is very strong. Sennit is an important material in the cultures of Oceania, where it is used in traditional architecture, boat building, fishing and as an ornamentation. These hooks are RARE and don’t come up for sale too often. This is the largest one we have seen to date. Some can be found on display at museums such as the British Museum, Yale Peabody Museum and also the Frisco Museum here in the US. If you are trying to find a gift for someone who has everything and they love history, and/or fishing, this is the perfect item for them. Sold As Is (in excellent condition). Sorry, all sales are final. Photos are part of the description so please ask any questions before purchasing. Thank you..

Small Congo Power Figure with Mirrored Compartment on Back – Standing on Turtle
This little power figure has an amazing patina from long use. He wears a typical Congo hat and has painted eyes. There is a very shiny plant fiber woven wrapping around his neck and his waist (you can see red fabric under the waist wrapping). He carries a mirrored compartment on his back. It looks like some kind of dripped or applied substance coming from the eyes, like tears. Approximately 6 1/4″ tall and 2 1/4″ wide at base from front. Sorry, no international buyers, shipping only to the USA.

OYO group, pair of male and female ERI IBEJI, Yoruba, Nigeria, Africa
Both OYO Ibejis standing upright with the hands on the hips, with bead necklaces and bracelets, also with a high hairdo with remaining indigo blue pigments and the bodies covered all over with now washed-out camwood powder, the faces with a nice touch patina. Yoruba peoples have one of the highest incidents of twin births in the world (0,05%). As a result, twins are regarded as extraordinary beings protected by Sango, the deity of thunder. They are believed to be capable of bestowing immense wealth upon their families or misfortune to those who do not honor them. Powerful spirits in life, twins are honored with carved memorial figures when they die. More than just memorials, these sculptures are regarded as containers for the soul of the deceased. These figures, known as ere ibeji (literally meaning ere: sacred image; ibi: born; eji: two), remain a point of access to the spirit of the departed individual. The mother provides ritual care to the wooden figures, bathing, dressing, adorning, and feeding them. Such daily handling is responsible for giving their surface its distinctive patina. Ere ibeji invariably represent their subjects with mature adult physiognomies, and are often crowned with elaborate hairdos. The size is 26 centimeters high and the weight is 353 gram for the male and 315 for the female. The condition is as pictured and as described. Items can be returned for any reason or no reason at all. Your satisfaction is my first priority. I do ship worldwide. The actual shipping fee will be charged, for Europe it will be no more than 21,00 USD and for the rest of the world it will be no more than 28,00 USD. I do combine shipping if possible.

Small Old Songye Figure – Commanding Presence
This carver knew how to express power in a very simple but commanding way. This little, old hard wood Songye figure is simply carved, with angular arms and legs that create an interesting profile. There are scarification marks on the forehead and a cross hatch design around the base. There is also a tiny, shallow, circular depression carved in the head. There is a modern drilled hole in the base for a mount, however this is how I found the object, without a mount. Smooth patina. Approximately 5 1/2″ tall x 1 3/4″ at widest point. Sorry, no international buyers, shipping only to USA.
